"Worlds Most Nutritious Fruit"

Avocado is often said to be the most nutritious fruit in the world – and it is! The fruit provides more than 25 essential nutrients such as protein, iron, copper, phosphorus and magnesium, just to name a few.
Nutritionists claim avocado contain goodly amounts of Vitamin C (necessary for the production of collagen needed for the growth of new cells and tissues, prevents viruses from penetrating cell membranes, and also a powerful anti-oxidant), thiamine (converts carbohydrates to glucose to fuel the brain and nervous system), and riboflavin (helps the body to release energy from proteins, carbohydrates and fat).
Avocado also has 60% more potassium than banana. Potassium is a mineral, that helps regulate blood pressure. As such, adequate intake of potassium can help guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease, or stroke. III addition, avocado also provides calories for energy and beneficial phytochemicals such as glutathione.
In recent years, most people avoid eating avocado like the plague. The reason: avocado is high in fat. In fact, 75% of its calories come from fat (which is why avocado is a good source of energy). But what they don’t know that the fat it contains is the healthful monotulsaturated fat, which has been linked to a reduced risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
“Avocados aid in blood and tissue regeneration, stabilize blood sugar, and are excellent for heart disorders,” says Dr. Ed Bauman, director of Bauman College. They’re loaded with fiber. (11 to 17 grams per fruit) and are a good source of lutein, an antioxidant linked to eye and skin health.” Unsaturated fats are those found in dairy and animal products.
Another reason for eating avocado: It helps in the absorption of nutrients that are fat-soluble such as beta-carotene and lutein, when foods containing these nutrients are eaten with avocado.
Overall, avocado is considered a complete food: it has vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, calories and fiber, no cholesterol, and is sodium free. As such, avocado is ideal for growing up children, adults and even for babies, especially when blended with other fruits. For athletes, avocado is a nutritious energy booster to rev up the body’s strength.
In the past, avocado has been considered to be an aphrodisiac. In fact, the Aztecs used the avocado as a sex stimulant and its name for the fruit as ahuacatl, which means “testicle.” Because of this well-entrenched reputation for inducing sexual prowess, avocado wasn’t purchased or consumed by any person wishing to protect their image from slanderous assault.
Although edible by themselves, avocados are commonly used as a base in dips. In areas where the fruit is commonly grown, a common breakfast is avocado on toast. This is made by mashing the avocado with some lemon ‘juice, salt and pepper and spreading on hot freshly toasted bread.
Actually, the avocado fruit is not sweet, but fatty, distinctly yet subtly flavored, and of smooth, almost creamy texture. In Brazil and Vietnam, avocados are frequently used for milkshakes and occasionally added to ice cream and other desserts. In Indonesia, a dessert drink is made with sugar, milk or water, and pureed avocado.
In the Philippines, ripe avocado is often eaten as a snack by scooping from flesh from the skin then mixed with some sugar and milk or cream. Most Filipinos simply find the taste so delicious!
In Australia, avocado is commonly served in sandwiches, often with chicken. In Mexico, avocado is served mixed with white rice, in soups salads, or on the side of chicken and meat. In Peru avocados are consumed with tequenos as mayonnaise, served as a side dish with parillas, used in salads and sandwiches, or as a whole dish when filled with tuna, shrimps, or chicken.
There are many health benefits you can get when rating avocado. Recent studies have shown that high avocado intake has effect on blood serum cholesterol levels. Specifically, after a seven day diet rich in avocados, hypercholesterolemia patients showed a 17% decrease in total serum cholesterol levels. These subjects also showed a 22% decrease in both LDL (low-density lipoprotein or “bad cholesterol”) and triglyceride levels and 11% increase in HDL (high-density lipoprotein or “good -cholesterol”) levels.
Researchers have also discovered that avocados are rich in beta-sitosterol, .a natural substance shown to significantly lower blood cholesterol levels. In a review article published in the December 1999 issue of the American Journal of Medicine, researchers pointed out that beta-sitosterol was shown to reduce cholesterol in 16 human studies.
But before you pile avocados onto every dish, remember that when it comes to calories, avocados have lots of them -because of all that fat. Fat of any type has double the calories of the same amount of carbohydrates. “Avocados add great variety to a well balanced, low-fat diet, but you have to eat them in moderation,” reminds Melanie Polk, a registered dietitian and director of nutrition education at the American Institute for Cancer Research in Washington, D.C.
A recommended serving size is 2 tablespoons, or roughly one-sixth of a medium-sized avocado. Each serving provides 5 grams of fat and 55 calories. Still, compared with butter or mayonnaise – which each pack 22 fat grams and 200 calories in a 2-tablespoon serving – they don’t seem so bad.
Avocado is also an excellent remedy for dry skin. Rub the inside of the skins against clean skin. For a face mask, mix 1/4 cup each of avocado puree and sour cream. Gently rub on face and neck, avoiding the sensitive areas around the eyes, and let it soak in about 15 minutes. Rinse with tepid water. Then gently massage the invisible oil into the skin with an upward and outward motion.
However, here’s a word of warning: There is documented evidence that animals such as cats, dogs, cattle, goats, rabbits, rats, birds, fish and horses can be severely harmed or even killed when they consume the avocado leaves, bark, skin, or pit. The avocado fruit is poisonous to some birds.
The reason for this is that avocado leaves contain a toxic fatty acid derivative known as pe’rsin. The symptoms include gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, congestion, fluid accumulation around the tissues of the heart and even death. Birds also seem to be particularly sensitive to this toxic compound. Negative effects in humans seem to be primarily in allergic individuals.
Avocado has a long history of cultivation in Central and South, America. It was introduced into the Philippines in 18yo by the Spaniards through seeds coming from Mexico. However, it was only from 1902 to 1907 that avocado was introduced successfully into the Philippines by the Americans.
According to a report from the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the country had a total area of 4,753 hectares planted with avocado from 1990-1997. The Average annual production was estimated at 45,864 tons.
Leading producing regions of the country are the Cagayan Valley, Central Visayas and Southern Tagalog, while the leading producing provinces are Bohol, located in Central Visayas and Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Cagayan which are located in the Cagayan Valley.
The FAO report said most regions of the country, however, have low productivity since avocado is grown mostly as a backyard tree or as a component of a mixed orchard with little or no- care at all.
“Avocado has a bright potential for development in the country,” says Rachel C. Sotto in a position paper published by FAO. For one, avocado can be grown anywhere in the country. “This is due to the introduction of several varieties belonging to the three different avocado races, giving the crop a wide range of soil and climatic adaptability,” she writes.
For another, the avocado has a long fruiting season. “In the Philippines, the peak of the fruiting season is from May to September, although some trees in certain localities fruit from January to March.”
Sotto is batting for the growing of avocado in the country because the fruit has a big potential for generating dollar revenues for the country. In the United States, avocado is sold at a very high price. Although avocado is listed as a fruit in the Philippines, it is considered a vegetable in the US.
“Avocados are often put on hamburgers and ham sandwiches,” reports the Philippine News Agency. “They are also used on carne asada tacos. In South Texas, peanut butter and avocado sandwiches are popular lunch box items, most commonly associated with Mexican-Americans. Avocados are also combined with eggs, in scrambled eggs, and in tortillas or omelettes.”

FOODS HELP BURN FATS

Dieting seems to be a difficult route for many of us to take. The plans are confusing, the exercises difficult to imitate and the motivation too hard to find – what’s a dieter to do?
Thankfully, science has tried to make it a little easier on us by discovering that some foods are actually good for burning fat – even without a special diet plan.
Adding foods that burn fat to your diet can not only help you achieve a slimmer physique, but they can also ensure that you don’t have to work too hard.
Foods that burn fat are sometimes surprising while others make sense because they’re so healthy to begin with. Here’s a list of the various foods that burn fat and why they’re supposed to work:
Foods that Contain Vitamin C

Because the body requires vitamin C to burn fat, eating foods that are high in vitamin C is said to help metabolize fat faster and make losing weight less difficult. You might want to try eating more oranges, pineapple, grapefruit, lemons, limes, green peppers, red, peppers, etc. These foods that burn fat are tasty and have few calories too to help increase the health in your diet.
Foods High in Fiber
When you eat more fiber, your stomach thinks that it’s fuller than it actually is. And while this isn’t quite like foods than burn fat, it lessens the amount of overall calories that you can ingest, which leads to fat loss.
You’ll want to choose foods like complex carbohydrates, beans, carrots, etc. when you’re looking for high fiber foods. Even just adding a high fiber cereal in the morning can help boost your fat loss efforts.
Green Tea
While tea doesn’t really fall into foods that can assist in fat burning, it certainly can help you find a slimmer new you. Because green tea contains caffeine, it’s a natural stimulant that can help your body burn more calories while at rest – meaning that you can burn fat without doing a thing.
But it also includes ECCG compounds that are also supposed to help boost your metabolism as well. You can find green tea supplements as well as normal tea bags in your local grocery store.
Dairy Foods

According to new research, it seems that dairy products are the latest foods that burn fat. Studies have shown that dairy suppresses a fat producing hormone called calcitrol. By drinking two to three glasses of low fat milk each day or eating a few servings of low fat cheese or yogurt, you can help to suppress that hormone and make fat burning a breeze.
Hot and Spicy Foods
When you eat foods like jalapenos or hot peppers, you stoke the fat burning fires in your body. What happens is that a chemical is released into your body that increases your metabolism, if only for a short while.
By eating more spicy foods that burn fat, you can have tasty meals without the added guilt. Just add a little Tabasco sauce to your eggs in the morning or to your soup at night for all the kick your body needs.
Drink Plenty of Water

Water helps to rid the body of toxins and chemicals that make be slowing down your overall metabolism.
By drinking at least six glasses a day, you can make sure that your digestion is running smoothly and that anything that shouldn’t be in your body is eliminated.
This water intake will also help you feel full longer, which allows you to eat less and lose more weight. Many times our hunger is really just thirst in disguise.
High Protein Foods

Protein – While you might already think this because of the Atkins Diet, protein is thought to help increase your metabolism. Eating protein rich foods that burn fat will help you give your diet an edge. All you need to do is choose low fat protein items (and this includes soy-based items if you’re vegetarian) for each meal of the day.
Foods that burn fat are tasty and easy to add to your daily diet. With a little diet renovation, you can create a daily eating plan that’s working for you, instead of against you.

Healthy Diet

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a healthy well-balanced diet is essential for successful weight loss. If you truly want to know how to lose weight, get used to phrases like, fresh fruits & vegetables, lean protein, and high fiber. When these words become part of your every day vocabulary, it means you’re doing something right!
But remember, its only a numbers game. If you can eat a donut or some chocolate and still stay under your caloric limit for the day, go for it. Don’t reprive yourself. But remember, if you know one donut leads to 12, you have to be careful.

{Adding fresh foods to your diet will allow for easier digestion and weight loss.}
The most difficult part of enjoying a healthy diet is finding ways to fulfill snack cravings that won’t add zillions of calories to your daily intake. There are tons of healthy snacks available that don’t require you to consume sugary, fat-filled snacks made with dye and other chemicals. Whether you’re looking for no carb snacks or a taste of sugar, consider blueberries or strawberries instead of fake zero calorie foods promising you can “eat as much as you want,” without gaining an ounce.
At The Fat Loss Authority, we have breakfast recipes, healthy lunch options and even tasty dinner recipes for a special occasion. Being committed to learning how to lose weight means taking responsibility for your food consumption, making your own meals is one simple way to do that.

Take Control

If we’re all being honest with ourselves about how our weight gain occurred, the truth is that we gave up control of our food and exercise programs. Losing weight and keeping it off means seizing that control back and using it to your advantage.
Taking control of your weight loss will require you to hold yourself accountable for meal preparation, cheat days and regular workouts. Make sure you plan your meals in advance so after a long day at the office you’re not tempted to get your favorite Chinese take-out! Meal planning allows you to have a built-in cheat day where you still control the amount of calories and the quality of ingredients but also enjoy a little bit of indulgence.
The one thing that is certain about learning how to lose weight and actually losing weight is that it requires us to be responsible for our efforts. As long as you get up each day and take small steps to make sure you eat a well-balanced diet, create a calorie deficit and get lots of exercise, you can be proud knowing that you’re on your way to having the body you’ve always wanted.

What Can a Fruit and Vegetable Diet Do for Your Body?.

Some say a fruit and vegetable diet is too extreme.

I am certainly no vegetarian, nor vegan, but I think that there would be many benefits for your weight loss and bodyshaping if you decided to embark on a short term fruit and vegetable diet, or at least, a mostly fruit and vegetable diet.
A fruit and vegetable diet can also do wonderful things for your health and energy levels

Fruits and veggies are great for your diet and I’ll explain why in a minute but first, let’s take a look at another reason why fruits and vegetables should be the bulk of your foods consumed.

Healthy Brain, Healthy Body
Fruits and vegetables are the most nutrient dense foods you can eat. There is no mystery behind the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” and you can substitute just about any fruit or vegetable for the apple and it would still ring true.
Eating a wide array of different types and colors in a fruit and vegetable diet will supply your body with every vitamin and mineral you would  swallow in a multi vitamin or any other supplement for weight loss.
However, when you take a multi vitamin most of the good stuff is blocked from being absorbed into the body as it is synthetic nutrients and the body isn’t stupid enough to fall for that trick. Nope, the body flushes right out as easy as it came in.
There are a few vitamin companies that have tried to come up with something better but there is nothing better than the original; the natural source of vitamins and minerals through a diverse fruit and vegetable diet.
Lots of these vitamins and minerals that you will be getting from the fruits and veggies are considered antioxidants, actually fighting the damage done to your cells from free radicals. Antioxidants help prevent cancer, give you younger looking skin, help you to see and prevent osteosporosis, and that is just a short list.
As you can see, eating more fruits and vegetables everyday is more than just a decision to lose weight, it is a decision to live healthier.
